COMMUNITY OVERVIEW
Langley, the
original Capital of the Colony of British Columbia, is now
comprised of two local governments, Langley City and Langley
Township. Together they are the home of 120,000
people.
Langley is one
of the faster growing regions of B.C. as Vancouver expands
outwards looking for affordable housing and a pleasant
lifestyle. Yet it still retains it's rural atmosphere.
Langley is known as the horse capital of B.C. and
it's two equestrian centres,Thunderbird and Milner, host many types of riding
events each year.
Aside from
the City area, Langley has several communities. In the
northwest, close to the Freeway is Walnut Grove aged 25
years to new. East along the Fraser River is historic Fort
Langley with it's artsy, village atmosphere. Just north of
Langley City and south of the freeway is Willowbrook, the
new developing area with new homes on smaller lots and plenty of townhouses.
South of the City is Brookswood where
typical 30+ year old homes sit on nice ¼ acre lots. East
of the City is Murrayville, another newer developed
residential area and the municipal centre for the Township.
Lastly on the eastern edge of Langley is Aldergrove, a
community of about 12,000 people.
Surrounding these built-up areas is rural acreage.
Hobby and horse farms are prevalent with many lots being 2
to 10 acres. Our acreage is typically more treed and
rolling than flat farmland. Commercially, among others, there are chicken and
turkey farms, mushroom growers and even cranberry growers beside
the Fraser River. Another farm industry is grape growing
with south Langley supporting a number of quality
vintners and winery tours.
