COMMUNITY OVERVIEW

Vancouver is a city that is so attractive that many visitors are tempted to move here permanently. Many tourists have gone straight from their hotels to the real estate agencies ready to set up home there. The city came into existence fairly recently. In 1776, JAMES COOK, during one of his numerous voyages, dropped anchor for repairs. During this time his men hunted otters and later sold their skins for a healthy profit in Macau. GEORGE VANCOUVER was later sent to map the coast and seek a northwest passage that would facilitate communications with the English colonies on the Atlantic coast. George Vancouver completed his mission and gave English names to the most important points of land, not knowing that one day a lively city, named after him would be built there. The area rapidly developed because of two vital factors: gold was discovered in the Fraser River in 1858 and the Hudson Bay Company exploited the vast resources of wood and fur. By 1886 the trans Canada railway was complete and the city began to make it's fortune.

Today Vancouver has grown into an international trade center with a wide variety of convention centres, sports arenas, theatres, shopping centres, and restaurants. It is a multicultural city with a beautiful backdrop of mountains, overlooking English Bay. A vast choice of outdoor activities such as skiing, canoeing, boating, hiking, biking, roller blading, etc are at your doorstep.

Real Estate varies from the convenience of condo living on the waterfront down in the Westend and Kitsilano, to the seclusion of a small acreage with horses in Southlands. Much of Vancouver's architecture has been restored and preserved giving the City a quaint heritage style in area's such as Mount Pleasant, Point Grey and the Westend. Then there are the mansions of Shaughnessy on beautiful winding treelined streets and the family homes of Kerrisdale with great shopping a few blocks away. Vancouver has appeal for all types of living and lifestyle and not many people want to leave once they have settled here.
